Mumbai :
A well-known social and educational organisation in Mumbai ‘K. G. Somaiya Trust’ allocates its ground in Sion-Chunabhatti area to Dr. Zakir Naik every year for convening public meeting. In such convention, Dr. Zakir Naik criticises Hindu Dharma and Deities in most foul language and carries out conversion of people to Islam religion. In order to oppose this conspiracy, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has decided to protest against such attempts from this year. Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad Districts has warned Somaiya Trust that if the ground is allotted to Dr. Dr. Zakir Naik for holding meeting, it will cause their notoriety, and Trust itself will be responsible for such an eventuality.
A delegation of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti called on Mr. S. M. Athalye, General Manager and Mr. Rangrajan Chief Executive Officer of the Trust and submitted them a memorandum. At that time Mr. Vatkar stated, “We will strongly oppose Dr. Zakir Naik for expressing thoughts criticising Hindu Dharma, and for this purpose, other devout Hindu organisations and sects have also become active. Dr. Zakir Naik has hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus by deliberately denigrating Shri Ganesh in the midst of Ganeshotsava festival. According to the information available with us, Dr. Zakir Naik will organise meetings and conventions in your ground for 10 days in the month of November and spread his poisonous thoughts. All devout Hindu organisations will protest against this.” Mr. Rangrajan, while taking objection, stated, “Dr. Zakir Naik has reserved the ground about 7 to 8 months back. It will be improper now to refuse him the permission. The proposed programme is permitted by Police authorities.” To counter this, Mr. Vatkar gave him detailed information regarding the activities conducted by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and successful lawful campaigns undertaken so far by Samiti. He said, “We have a respect for your organisation, and hence, we expect cooperation from you. Your organisation moulds the career of many young persons through education.”

‘If you make your ground available to Dr. Zakir Naik for his meeting, you will have to face strong protest from other devout Hindu organisation besides us. You organisation will unnecessarily earn notoriety. This campaign will be on a larger scale than the one undertaken against painter M. F. Husain. We will take assistance from judiciary as well as from Police also. However, if Somaiya Trust fulfils its duty towards Dharma, it will earn merits, but on the other hand, if you henceforth allocate ground to an anti-national personality, Somaiya Trust will be solely responsible for sinful act and they will also have to endure effects of such act.’ On this statement, the management of Trust said, “We have realised the seriousness of this matter. We will take the final decision in the meeting of trust proposed to be held in next week.”
